ToadOps Update: April 2026
Another month, another round of updates. We have been busy on several fronts, from improving the hardware targeting to adding new features in the app. Here is what has changed.
Push Notifications
The ToadOps app now supports native push notifications on both iPhone and Android. When your ToadTurret detects a cane toad, you will get a notification straight to your phone.
This has been one of the most requested features. Previously, you had to open the app or web dashboard to check what happened overnight. Now you can get notified in real time when your device detects activity.
Push notifications are set up during the device setup wizard, but you can enable or adjust them at any time in the app settings.
Improved Servo Targeting
We have put a lot of work into how the device physically aims the spray nozzle. The targeting system uses a servo-controlled nozzle that adjusts based on where the toad is detected in the camera frame.
In this update, we replaced the previous instant adjustment with smooth, velocity-controlled movement. The nozzle now tracks towards its target gradually rather than jumping to the position all at once. This results in more accurate targeting and less mechanical stress on the servo over time.
We also increased the adjustment speed during the initial targeting phase so the device can acquire targets faster, while keeping the movement smooth and controlled.
App Navigation Improvements
The mobile app has had a round of navigation improvements. When you are viewing your device status via Bluetooth, you can now tap on status fields (like WiFi status or speaker status) to jump directly to the relevant settings screen. This makes it faster to find and adjust the setting you are looking for without hunting through menus.
We have also added an information section to the Bluetooth screen explaining that you can connect Bluetooth speakers to the device to broadcast cane toad mating calls as an attractant. The device supports standard Bluetooth audio output for this purpose.
Web Action Feedback
When you send commands to your ToadTurret from the app or web dashboard (things like triggering a test spray, changing settings, or requesting a status update), the system now reports back on whether the command succeeded, failed, or timed out.
Previously, sending a command was fire-and-forget. You would tap the button and hope it worked. Now the app shows you the result, so you know whether the device actually received and executed the command.
Dashboard and Monitoring
We have continued to refine the server-side monitoring and error dashboards. This does not directly affect what you see in the app, but it helps us identify and fix issues faster when they come up. Better monitoring on our end means better reliability for you.
Get In Touch
We love hearing from users. Whether it is feedback, questions, or just wanting to share your toad stories, get in touch. We respond to everything.
